On Saturday, April 26, more than 100 people gathered in Saskatoon to call for urgent climate action, a just transition for workers, and investments in green, reliable energy. The Earth Action Day rally began at the east end of the University Bridge. It concluded in Kinsmen Park with music, chants, signs, and heartfelt speeches from community members, workers, students, and youth leaders.

The turnout, energy, and spirit of the day were inspiring. This event could not have happened without the contributions of so many. From those who placed posters and helped with setup, to the speakers, chanters, singers, and supporters who stood in solidarity — it was a true collective effort.

The rally spoke to the need to build a sustainable future with people in mind. Glenn Wright spoke to the need to support a transition to clean energy, and that action is needed to fight climate anxiety. He reminded us that Saskatchewan has the power to change, and we must continue to love each other and nature to create that change. Sabrina Dykstra, a young plaintiff, was another speaker.  She is involved in the court case against SaskPower for failing to uphold climate commitments, and was a reminder that youth are not just watching but leading. A former coal miner, Christopher Shavetail shared his powerful story of leaving the extraction industry. His call for a transition that respects workers and leverages their skills for a green future resonated deeply with the crowd. Finally, Jory Vermette, an organizer and speaker, whose words grounded the rally in truth, resistance, and hope. As a Métis voice in the movement, he reminded us of the leadership Indigenous communities have long shown in land and water defence, and renewable energy solutions like those led by Cowessess First Nation. The messages from our speakers were clear: the path forward must be collective and rooted in justice.

We’re also thrilled to share that the rally was covered by the media, helping spread our message even further. The visibility of this event shows that our voices are being heard — and that this community is ready for bold, fair, and inclusive climate action.

Thank you to every person who contributed in any way — large or small — to make this day possible. Your energy, time, and commitment brought this vision to life. This is just the beginning. Let’s keep building.
