Thousands from coast to coast took to the streets today as part of a global day of action to demand that all governments pick a side: that of justice, peace, environmental and economic prosperity, or that of injustice, violence, and climate catastrophe—it is time to draw the line!

The Saskatoon march was in coordination with groups in over 50 communities from across Canada to draw the line — but this movement is about so much more than one single day of action. Together, we are building a coast-to-coast alliance across movements, bringing together climate and migrant justice, Indigenous reconciliation, labour rights, economic democracy, anti-war, and Palestine solidarity groups in cities and communities across the country.

Why Now?

To cancel immigration permits en masse, restrict asylum claims, and expand warrantless surveillance on all Canadians.

Q

Slashed taxes for the wealthy

While continuing subsidies for fossil fuel companies.

Q

Declared the Air Canada strike illegal

Within 24 hours.

By shelving the Digital Services Tax and reportedly considering joining his “Golden Dome” missile defence program.

Words from our community

Glenn Wright, Organizer, Climate Justice Saskatoon

Love motivates people to change and make a difference. Around the world today many people have stood up to draw the line and their presence demonstrates our collective empathy, concern, and awakening. We have the power to change – but that change begins in our minds. People are demanding reconciliation – not only to reconcile our relationships with each other, but to reconcile our relationship with nature. Exploitation is unjust, hurtful, and toxic. People today at draw the line have sent a clear message that we need a sustainable economy that cares, not an economy of exploitation and extraction for perpetual growth.

Brahm Enslin, CUPW Local 824 President

CUPW is drawing the line – against austerity, privatization, and corporate greed. Our fight is not only for climate justice, but for social justice. Postal workers know that the struggle for a livable planet is the struggle for decent jobs, Indigenous sovereignty, and strong public services. That’s why we are bargaining these demands into our collective agreements – because when workers win them at the table, they set new standards for the whole country. Labour has the power to lead society forward, and CUPW is proud to make that our priority..

Mohammad Abushar, Free Palestine Saskatoon

What is happening in Gaza is genocide in plain sight. Entire families are being wiped out, children are buried under rubble, and a population is being starved and silenced while the world watches. This is not a natural disaster. It is not a tragedy without cause. It is the result of ongoing occupation, blockade, and systematic denial of human rights.

As Canadians, we must recognize that silence is complicity. We cannot claim to stand for human rights abroad while turning a blind eye to Gaza. We cannot claim to value freedom and dignity while ignoring the cries of a people who have been stripped of both for decades. But there is hope in our solidarity. There is power in our collective voice. Each time we speak, write, organize, and demand justice, we chip away at the walls of indifference. Gaza does not need our pity—it needs our action.

I call on our community and on Canada to stand firmly for justice, for humanity, and for Gaza. History will remember where we stood. Let it remember that we stood on the side of life, dignity, and freedom.

Peter Prebble, Board Member, Saskatchewan Environmental Society

If left unchecked, climate change threatens the future of human civilization. The devastating wildfire seasons in recent years show what lies ahead if urgent action is not taken to phase out fossil fuels and reduce their greenhouse gas pollution. Immediate action is needed at both the provincial and federal levels. Today we call on the Saskatchewan government to restore the carbon price on large industrial emitters and to implement an accelerated phase out of Saskatchewan’s conventional coal-fired power stations. We urge the federal government to end fossil fuel subsidies and implement a cap on oil and gas industry emissions. Above all, we need a nation-wide effort to build a safe, renewable energy future for everyone.
